The Bioinformatician in the Department of Research and Development will focus on the analysis of large NGS datasets with in-depth knowledge of data-handling and sufficient knowledge of cancer genomics. Responsibilities
- Apply bioinformatics methods to process cancer NGS data;
- Conduct various statistical analyses to discover relationships between genetic alterations and clinical outcomes;
- Record all analysis steps in an accurate, timely and clearly presented manner, and use this to prepare data summaries and reports as and when required; prepare scientific manuscripts.
- Complete projects in a timely fashion and working in a collaborative team environment.
Requirements
- PhD or Master’s degree with 3 years of experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology or a related discipline required;
- Strong background with unix/linux tools and at least three years coding experience with PERL, PYTHON or related data analysis languages; solid understanding of statistics, expertise in R and Bioconductor;
- Exposure to NGS data is mandatory with advanced knowledge of NGS platforms, datatype (FASTQ, BAM, VCF, MAF) and analysis tools; a proven track record in the analysis of large “omics” data sets (e.g. RNA-seq, wholegenome/exome sequencing).
- Prior experience with cancer genomics or clinical NGS is an asset; experience in working with test-driven programming and version control is an asset.
- Excellent communication skills and proven leadership abilities.
